As part of Minor Swing 6 at ATOMIC Ballroom, Laura Keat and Jeremy Otth will guide intermediate+ dancers through Balboa and LA Swing with an approach that’s equal parts classic and current—clean technique, thoughtful partnering, and material that makes you feel more confident the moment you step back onto the floor. Come spend the afternoon dancing with two incredible teachers, leave with fresh ideas you’ll actually use, and kick off your Minor Swing weekend feeling inspired.

  • Then & Now: Pure Bal • A deep dive into Pure Balboa that blends the ideas of Balboa’s legends and originators with modern concepts dancers use today—so your dancing feels grounded in tradition, but fully alive and relevant on today’s social floor.
  • Flashy from the 40s: LA Swing • Explore LA Swing with that vintage Hollywood flair—stylish shapes, crisp rhythm, and playful energy that adds sparkle to your swing dancing without losing clarity or connection.
  • Putting It Together: Exciting Moves & Combos • Bring it all together with practical combinations that feel smooth, musical, and fun to dance—real-world material you’ll want to use immediately.

Prerequisites (Intermediate+)

This workshop is best for dancers who are comfortable with:

  • Balboa/Bal-Swing: solid 8-count basics, out-and-ins, toss-outs, come arounds, and smooth transitions between Pure Bal and Bal-Swing.
  • Lindy Hop: comfortable with 6-count and 8-count patterns, including swing outs, tuck turns, and inside turns.

Take a class with the amazing Laura Keat—a special treat during Minor Swing Weekend. This open-level Balboa Footwork & Styling class is a fun way to sharpen your basics, add some personality to your dancing, and feel more confident stepping onto the floor right after.
