This electrifying event features thrilling social dancing and fierce competitions. We’re partnering with the International Lindy Hop Championships for the North American Qualifier for the World Finals in ILHC New York. Atomic Ballroom will be transformed into a hotbed of rhythmic excitement for three days. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a beginner, Minor Swing promises an unforgettable weekend filled with energy, talent, and competition. Very SoCal Strictly

Now is your chance to compete in our “Very SoCal Strictly” contest! This year, it’s an Any Swing Goes Tournament. In the semi-finals, you’ll go head to head with other couples in a single elimination tournament battle for the title. Grab your partner and get to work because when you make the finals, you’ll be dancing to LIVE music with Josh Collazo’s Jazzboree! Space is limited, so sign up today.

Prelims: 3/9 • 4:00 pm
Couples will dance in heats with 3 songs per heat. Followed by an all-skate.

Finals: 3/10 • 7:00 pm
The top 8 couples will go head to head in single-elimination duels. You will get one chorus (16x8s) each and then end with an all-skate chorus (16x8s). When we get down to the final 2 couples, each couple will get a chorus (16x8s), a half chorus (8x8s) and then an all skate chorus (16x8s). Judges will be choosing their winner on the spot. Finals will be to the live music of Josh Collazo’s Jazzboree.

Entry Fee: $40 Per Couple

Newcomer Mix & Match

Our Newcomer Mix & Match is a competition where you are paired with other random dancers, and you’re judged on your social dancing. Based on the Jack & Jill contest created by legendary Swing Dancer, Jack Carey. This competition is intended for dancers that have never competed in a contest or dancers that have never placed in a major contest.

Prelims: 3/8 • 10:30 pm
Couples will dance with a randomly paired partner in heats with 3 songs per heat. Followed by an all-skate where anything goes.

Finals: 3/8 • 11:30 pm
Finalists will be randomly paired with a partner and judged as a couple. Finals will be a phrase battle to recorded music. Each couple will get 2 outs, 8x8s each, then an all-skate final. Mikey will be there to help you count and guide traffic.

Entry Fee: $20 Per Person

30 Second Showcase: ProAm

The 30-Second Showcase is back! Create a 30-45 second routine in Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz, Balboa, Shag, or Charleston with a partner. It’s now a Pro/Am contest – team up with a professional dancer and get to creating! No more than 2 dancers on the floor. Submit your music to mikey@atomicballroom.com by March 7, 2024.

ILHC Qualifiers

All-Star Strictly

    • Prelims 3/9 • 5:00pm: All-skate heats, 3 heats.
    • DJ – 3 songs per heat (with 4th on standby) medium, slower, and faster (190, 160, 220 bpm), about 1min 30sec each.
    • Finals 3/9 • 10:30pm: Live Music with Band.
    • Spotlights w/ approximately 7 couples selected from prelims.
    • Warmup all-skate: 160 bpm, about 1 minute.
    • Spotlights: 160 bpm (1 chorus), drum rolls, 230 bpm (1 chorus).
    • All-skate finale: -230 bpm, about 1 chorus.
    • Prizes:
      • 1st place wins a flight voucher to ILHC New York.
      • 1st place is invited straight to the Strictly Throwdown at ILHC New York
      • 1st and 2nd place wins free entrance to ILHC New York & no entry fees for these contests.
      • 2nd place goes straight to the finals of the All-Star Strictly at ILHC New York.

All-Star Solo Jazz

    • Prelims 3/10 • 2:00pm: All-skate heats, 2-3 heats.
    • DJ – 3 songs per heat (with 4th on standby) medium, slower, and faster (-200, 140, 230 bpm), about 1 min 30 seconds each.
    • Finals 3/10 • 6:30pm: Live Music with Band.
    • Spotlights w/ approximately 7 dancers selected from prelims.
    • Warmup all-skate: 150 bpm, about 1 minute 30 seconds.
    • Spotlights: 170 bpm (1 chorus), drum rolls, 230 bpm (1 chorus).
    • All skate finale: 230 bpm, about 1 chorus.
    • Prizes:
       • 1st place wins a flight voucher to ILHC New York.
       • 1st place is invited straight to the Solo Jazz Throwdown at ILHC New York.
       • 1st and 2nd place wins free entrance to ILHC New York & no entry fees for these contests.
       • 2nd place goes straight to the finals of the All-Star Strictly at ILHC New York.

Entry Fee: $20 Per dancer.

All-Star Classic

    • Finals 3/10 • 2:30pm
    • Lindy Hop routine division. Competitors (1 lead and 1 follow) dancing to music of their choice.
    • No aerials, air-steps, acrobatics, or lifts in this division. Emphasis on partnering.
    • Songs should be 2 – 2.5 minutes in length (or cut or faded within the time allotted).
    • Prizes:
      • 1st place wins a flight voucher to ILHC New York.
       • 1st and 2nd place wins free entrance to ILHC New York & no entry fee for the All-Star Classic at ILHC New York.

Entry Fee: $40 Per couple.
