Prerequisites: 

Participants should be comfortable with basic salsa steps patterns such as: all variation of basic step (forward, back and side), right turn, left turn, cross body lead turn

A Little History of Salsa On2

Salsa On2 is closely tied to the New York salsa/mambo tradition, where dancers developed a style that emphasized musical structure, rhythm interpretation, and a smoother “in-the-pocket” feeling. Over time, On2 became a signature of many NY-style dancers and schools, especially for dancers who love dancing with the percussion and phrasing—not just on top of it.

On1 vs. On2: What’s the Difference?

Both are salsa—same music, same partner dance—just a different timing choice that changes the feel:

• On1 (LA-style timing): breaks forward on the 1, often giving a sharper, more accented look.
• On2 (NY-style timing): breaks back on the 2, aligning more closely with the clave and rhythm section for a smoother, more grounded flow.
