With a jam packed schedule things are already beginning to heat up at ATOMIC Ballroom well before summer’s scorch ushers in! There are so many exciting new additions to the line up, along with popular continuing series from previous seasons.
Beginning with Milonga Rouge taught by Lauren Woods on Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at 6:15 pm, followed by a sizzling Milonga until 11pm. Bringing you a tempting night of tantalizing tango with DJ Michael McCarell. The theme is dapper and floral with a semi-formal dress code (no jeans or T-Shirts) and of course, dance shoes while on the dance floor. Keeping in spirit with the traditional ambiance of tango, you can reserve a table for the evening by calling 949-250-3332 or emailing dance@atomicballroom.com for pricing. The Pre-Milonga CLASS is $20 or one punch on a punch card, the Milonga is $20, and both Milonga and class are just $30. There will be treats and refreshments all night long!
The following weekend come celebrate the legacy of Southern California Swing Dancing with instructor Nick Williams and special guest DJ, Shana Worel at Bobby McGee’s Swing Dance Party! Every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month from 12:00-4:00pm right here at ATOMIC! A place for for all Swing styles and all levels, there’s something for everyone. Total beginners are welcome and no partner is needed! Entrance into the Bobby McGee’s Dance Party is included with the purchase of group class.
Also on Saturday, May 7th is a very special Paso Doble workshop with Brian Coyne. This passionate, dramatic dance tells a story through sharp movements, flamenco-style footwork and striking body poses. Although this is an all-levels workshop, it does require basic ballroom familiarity with dances like Tango or Foxtrot, as you will use the basic foundation to create a basic bronze level dance routine. Then this will all culminate into an open, partnerless dance allowing participants to channel the character and essence of this fiery dance! The entire workshop is $50 or 5 punches from your punch card if you pre-register by May 6th, or it’s $60 at the door. You may sign up in person or online!
Live music Tuesdays kicks off on May 17th from 8:30 pm – 11:15 pm. Come feel the energy and excitement of live swing music from Jonathan Stout and His Campus Five Featuring Hilary Alexander! You can arrive early for group Swing dance classes then stay for the band at 9:00pm every 3rd Tuesday! Come partake in this lively night of entertainment for just $15 Pre-Sale, $20 at the door, or $10 with a group class!
Also new and upcoming is a progressive monthly series class that will change monthly. Lindy Hop 3: Routines, will be taught by Kelly Young & Andrew Jose. Prerequisites for this class are you must be comfortable mixing 6 & 8 count patterns with ease, have experience with improvisation and musicality and be able to dance at different tempos. Solo Jazz experience is also recommended. You get to take all your current skills and moves to the next level by learning a structured Lindy Hop routine!
Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 will be required to attend Sunday’s BOBBY MCGEE’S social dance and Tuesday and Thursday evening events. Please bring proof of vaccination on your next visit and a notation will be made on your account. You may conveniently purchase passes here on the website, on the ATOMIC app or in studio.
