If you’re a frequent dancer, you have likely noticed that fellow dancers always seem to be on the hunt for new stomping grounds, even when they already have a nice, regular place to dance. Whether for change of scenery, other reasons, or most often seeking a safe haven for a different night, many dancers like to know what our options are even if we know we’re staying in for the night.
We are all so lucky to have familiar spaces like Tapas for salsa and ATOMIC to go dance just about any style you like. But what about those hard core salsa dancers who need to get their salsa fix after Wednesday, want to try something different, but aren’t always up for driving to LA? As I am often asked, where can one go besides the usual spots, where they can have some great dances without the intimidation factor some speak of at some places?
Recently, a gem of a space was secured by ATOMIC’s very own Shesha Marvin and Corey Eiland. Located in the heart of downtown Santa Ana, at the historic Yost Theater Ritz Ballroom, Candela is the newest, most trendy place to dance, with a modern look and classic throwback feel!
From its high vaulted ceilings, recess lighting, and stretched windows which allow you to take in the night time skyline, this grand New York style loft space gives off a classic big city feel. Not to mention the new sound systems and that floor! Dancers are always complaining about the poorly maintained floors at some places, whether they are too slippery, splintery or just not large enough. Well none of this is an issue at this dancers haven where there is a new, large 2400 sqft floor with enough space to fit your average salsa spot at least three times! For this and other reasons, Candela truly is a dancers dream!
Doors open at 7PM, with free cover before 8Pm and free salsa lessons at 8:30PM. Those 18 and over are welcome, and local students with a current college ID get discounted admission for just $5! In addition, there is fully stocked bar in the front lounge where you can have a seat and order drinks and appetizers, or even practice a few steps in the nice sized space beside the bar! With all of this along with the best in salsa and bachata provided by the host with the most, Corey himself, you should come experience it for yourself. If you haven’t danced here yet, what are you waiting for? Don’t miss out on this classic experience any longer!
