Happy Fathers DayHappy Father’s Day 2012 from Atomic Ballroom!

“A Father carries pictures where his money used to be…”

Dads and Father figures are a source of strength and support in our lives.  They are someone we look up to.  They are our heroes.  Some pick us up when we fall and skin our knees.  Others are on the sideline for every game encouraging us to succeed.  These paternal bonds guide us into adulthood.  Thank you dads for all that you do!

Dancing Dads

This Father’s Day we’d like to honor the amazing dads who dance.  As a product of the 90’s swing revival, I have had a chance to see a few generations of swing dancers become parents.  It has been a magical experience watching these action driven young men become sappy diaper changing, photo sharing, baby bjorn dancing fathers.  There are good, responsible and doting fathers all around the world, but men who dance (professionally or within a social dance community) seem to thrive as parents.

A special Happy Father’s Day to Atomic Ballroom owner, Shesha Marvin.  Somehow, Shesha has managed to balance being a professional dance instructor, performer, successful business owner and now a doting father to daughter, Anjali.  When she was born, he and Nikki would often dance with her in their arms; or you might see her strapped to Shesha’s chest as he careful swung out.

Now that Anjali has grown a few years, she’s an avid dancer herself and loves to swing around the room with dad.  Shesha has nurtured a little future swing dancer.  We wish him a Happy Father’s Day in the hope he finds fatherhood just as fun and rewarding the second time around!

A Special Dance for Father

Choreographer Mia Michaels put together a routine in tribute to her father and is performed by SYTYCD contestants Neil and Lacey Schwimmer, daughter of professional west coast swing dancer, Buddy Schwimmer.  It is a beautiful routine and wonderful way to show our appreciation for all those fathers who support us.
