Dancing with the Stars Week 6: Rock Week

Dancing with the Stars Week 6: Rock Week

Or not.  Everyone was having an off night (with the exception of Brandy and Maksim, who scored a very respectable 26 points for their tango) and  DWTS”s Rock Week left much to be desired by everyone on the dance floor.

Musically I can’t stop cringing.  I’m baffled as to why dancers were dancing to either the Paso Doble or the tango for Rock Week, when these songs would have been better suited to the jive or the quickstep.  It’s just another clear example of why performing to music that doesn’t line up with the dance just doesn’t work.  For example, Kurt Warner and his partner Anna Trebunskaya had to dance the Paso Doble to Europe’s “The Final Countdown.” There are so many thinks wrong with that sentence that I can’t believe I had to write it.  The Paso Doble is a march-like dance that was inspired by the music played at the beginning of a bullfight and it gave everyone problems last night.

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough just completely fell apart during their Paso

Doble, earning their all-time lowest score of 20 pts.  Points-wise they’re still in the running for first place but I think the weeks of dancing are finally taking their toll on everyone as no one really danced well tonight.

And, just for fun, there was a dance marathon where all the competitors freestyle danced to ZZ Top.  Team Baby Derek redeemed themselves a bit by coming in second place but I now have serious doubts as to whether Jennifer is going to be able to finish the competition.

Here are the team scores from last night:

Team Bran DMC — Brandy & Maks: 26 (Tango) + 10 (marathon) = 36
Team TorinA — Audrina & Tony: 24 (Paso) + 8 (marathon) = 32
Team Fox-C — Rick & Cheryl: 24 (Tango) + 6 (marathon) = 30
Team Schmurgles — Kyle & Lacey: 23 (Tango) + 7 (marathon) = 30
Team Baby Derek
— Jennifer & Derek: 20 (Paso) + 9 (marathon) = 29
Team Ballin’ — Bristol & Mark: 23 (Tango) + 5 (marathon) = 28
Team KURTanna — Kurt & Anna: 18 (Paso) + 4 (marathon) = 24
