This Friday, March 6th – Sunday, March 8th swing dancers from all around will come together in Orange County for the annual Lindy Hop Swing Dance Camp appropriately called Inspiration Weekend. From the novice to the advanced, this dance packed, weekend is for anyone and everyone who loves to move, groove and learn. Imagine combining your favorite social dance spot and DJ with your favorite dance classes and instructors all in one action packed, fun filled weekend; this is Inspiration Weekend in a nutshell!
Organized by Shesha and Nikki Marvin, this weekend of inspiration is a combination of special workshops, contests, and social dances where you can dance ’til you drop… or until dawn, whichever comes first! There will be live music by Falty and the Defects and the Jonathan Stout Orchestra, featuring Hilary Alexander. This is a great opportunity to learn and grow as a dancer, expanding your knowledge and dance community all together.
The workshops cover three main categories: The social dancer’s track, where dancers of varied levels can improve aspects of their social dancing; the competitor’s track, where seasoned dancers take their dancing to another level by focusing on performance and competitions; and the teacher’s track, providing a solid basis for those wanting to start teaching, while current instructors fine tune their teaching skills; There are also special workshop add-ons such as Balboa with Nick and Sylvia and an Aerials Add On with Pontus and Isabella; these give advanced dancers a chance to soar like never before! (Both literally and figuratively)!
Another event highlight will be the exciting contests and dazzling performances by attendees as well as special guest instructors. There will be several California Regional competitions with special prizes awarded by the events’ sponsors. The main divisions being, 30 Second Showcase, Am Jack and Jill, All Star Jack and Jill Lindy Hop Tournament, Blues Battle, Apple Jacks to Apple Jacks Solo Jazz.
Featuring some of the top Lindy instructors from around the world, such as Nick Williams & Sylvia Sykes, Remy “R” Kouakou & Evita Arce, Pontus Persson & Isabella Gregorio (listed as P and R), and Dax Hock & Sarah Breck, this event is sure to challenge, entertain but most of all inspire!
