Week 2 of ABC’s ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ Season 18 is bringing the heat, the jazz and some stellar swing moves to the floor! As contestants are eliminated the competition is heating up between ice dancing Olympic champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White, ParaOlympian Amy Purdy, and ‘The Wonder Years’ Danica McKellar.

This week brought a real variety of ballroom dances: (east coast) swing, jive, tango, samba, tango, salsa and rumba! And while everyone performed admirably, there were some stand outs this week.

DWTS Week 2 Stand-outs: Swing, Samba, Jive and Tango

Let’s start with the swing! These two performances stand out in their way. First, Maks puts Meryl Davis through the paces with a high-flying, aerial rich routine, then Derek finds a way to make fast-stepping swing possible for double-(leg)amputee, Amy Purdy.

Meryl Davis and Maks – Swing (Week 2)

Amy Purdy and Derek – Swing (Week 2)

Drew Carey and Cheryl – Jive (Week 2)

Drew Carey shows that jive can be fun with a cute, early rock’n’roll number. I really hope he gets to hang around for a few more weeks too.

Charlie White and Shama – Tango (Week 2)

Shama didn’t shy away from creating a highly technical, traditional tango routine. Unfortunately, Judge Len Goodman docked the pair for breaking hold…a big no-no in this dance a decision which ultimately fell on Charlie’s partner, Shama; otherwise, this performance is smooth, smooth, smooth!

Leading and correct technique is difficult for most contestants this early in the comp, but Charlie’s experience is catapulting him towards becoming an excellent and highly capable ballroom dancer!

Danica McKellar and Val – Samba (Week 2)

With respectable scores last week, her partner Val wanted to up the challenge with an especially difficult samba, and it worked – Danica is in it to win it! This super smart mathematician just became a tigress on the dance floor…raarrr! She’s getting better at the detailed technique, but she’s defiantly got the chops to carry it off like a professional dancer herself.
