Just like the Shim Sham, the Jitterbug Stroll and the Big Apple, the Tranky Doo is a choreographed jazz dance, which is broken down into 8-counts which anyone can study, memorize and put their own personal touch on.

Developed by Savoy Ballroom dancer, Pepsi Bethel, and most commonly performed by Al Minns and Leon James, the Tranky Doo has universally known steps which can be adapted for every dancer.  And although it was originally danced to the song Tuxedo Junction, you will usually see the dance floor clear out when the DJ plays Ella Fitzgerald’s Dipsy Doodle.
