Top 6 Slow Dance Songs

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and it’s time to get your game face on.  Break out those romantic moves, and BAM! you’re sweetie won’t know what hit him or her.  Maybe you’re just learning to dance, or better yet, you’re going to take lessons and learn to dance together.  No matter what your level of dance, you can – and should, in my opinion – slow dance.  If you’re a pro at any style of dance, then you could probably come up with something, but for the rest of us mere mortals there are songs that you can’t do much to but grab your partner (gently!) and sway from side to side.  It’s sweet, it’s intimate and it’s really, really romantic.  Those are the moments that mean more than any fancy footwork.

As Time Goes By

You can’t go wrong here.  It’s the iconic song of “Casablanca,” the love theme of star-crossed lovers Rick and Ilsa, and the song that was chosen to sum up one of the more enduring loves ever put to celluloid.  Combined with the vocals of Frank Sinatra and you’ve got a killer combo for a romantic moment.

When I Fall in Love – Nat King Cole

Believe it or not, Rick Astley did a cover of this song that reached #2 on the charts (go figure!).  I’m going to let Mr. Nat King Cole do the talking here about this beautiful and iconic song as he says it so much better than I ever could.  Just listening to this song makes me melt like buttah.  Perfect for slow dancing.

In The Still of the Night – The Satins

This song was apparently composed in the basement of a church.  That explains why these harmonies are just divine.

So In Love from “Kiss Me Kate”

My absolute favorite version of this song, the one that just gives me chills, is the duet between Lara Fabian and Mario Frangoulis.  This version was made for the film “De-Lovely” and is just that – de-lovely.

Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me – Mel Carter

Mel Carter’s passionate vocals just make this song even more romantic than it already is – SWOON!

It Must Be Love – Madness

This one is my own personal favorite.  It’s a fun, catchy, and surprisingly romantic song and the ska-inspired rhythms make me grin from ear to ear.
