If you’re a social dancer, there’s no question that you’ll be pulling out all the stops for your first dance. But why should you learn to dance if you and your sweetie aren’t dance inclined?
1. Quality time
Weddings, no matter how smoothly they run, are stressful events and it’s all too easy to get caught up in the things that need to be done. Learning to dance together will help keep you focused on your relationship and give you some much needed fun time together in the midst of all the planning.
2. Dancing is a great de-stressor
Dancing is a great workout and a lot of fun! Taking time out to unwind will ensure that you look and feel great for the big day. Let’s face it – nothing makes you look and feel more rundown than stress does. Kick up your heels, relax, and have fun getting ready for your first dance.
3. A Moment Alone
After all that planning, your wedding day is going to go by in whirlwind of moments and guests. Your first dance together will give you a much needed moment alone together as a couple without your family and friends demanding your attention. And it’s a special moment, so why not make it something that really means something to both of you?
4. Showcase Your Style
Well-meaning friends and family can often interject their tastes and opinions into your special day. Your wedding dance can showcase your style as a couple – whether you’re Lindy Hoppers that love Big Band music or prefer a romantic tango, pick a dance and music that speaks to you and that you’ll love to dance to.
5. Don’t leave your first dance to fate.
Meeting the love of your life may have been fate, but your first dance shouldn’t be left up to the whims of whatever you feel like doing at the time. It’s a moment that is going to be remembered on film, in pictures, and in the hearts and minds of everyone who is celebrating with you on your special day. You’re not going to want to look back on that day and realize that you just shuffled back and forth for the length of a song. Being prepared will also take some of the pressure off of the first dance – you won’t have to sweat it because hey, you already know what you’re doing.
You may decide that you’ve enjoyed dancing so much that you’ll want to stick with it long after your wedding day is over. You can speak to any of ATOMIC’s qualified instructors, check out our series classes or private lessons and in no time you’ll look like a dance floor pro.
Or you can always go the route of this couple.
Wait for it…..
I can’t disagree with anything in this article except the video…it appears that the couple were well rehearsed. Sure it’s a trendy, a little classless, crude and overtly sexual for a wedding (I wouldn’t DARE do that in a room that contained my parents and grandparents), they executed the moves very well in my opinion. :-)
rehursed or not, i think the people in the video are awesome! yah, it’s not for everyone, but you would be surprised how many people are doing stuff like this now. i think its really funny.
i wont be doing it for my wedding, but funny none the less.
Heckman – it was totally tongue-in-cheek on my part, although I do give that couple major bonus points for doing something original that was a reflection of them. Most importantly they had fun.
