The days are getting shorter and fall is approaching and you know what that means – it’s time for Season 11 of Dancing with the Stars!
This season’s cast boasts a few people that I’m interested to see dance, including Jennifer Grey of Dirty Dancing fame to see where her dance chops lie and Florence Henderson, who is proving that age ain’t nothin’ but a number. This 76-year-old will be hitting the dance floor against competitors 50 years younger than she is and I’m really thrilled that DWTS has picked competitors from all age and skill levels. The other four ladies joining the cast are singer Brandy, Bristol Palin, comedian Margaret Cho, and The Hills star Audrina Patridge.
I’m less enthusiastic about the leads this time around because one of their picks comes from The Jersey Shore as Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is one of the line-ups for the fellas. When it comes to reality shows I didn’t think you could sink lower than The Hills until The Jersey Shore came along (I’m sorry, I can’t put much dance hope in anyone whose nickname is “The Situation”).
Then we’ve got David Hasselhoff (oh no), former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner, Disney Channel’s Kyle Massey (who?) and ex-NBA champion Rick Fox. Right now my money is on either Kurt Warner or Rick Fox, as both competed in sports that require grace and agility (say what you want about football). Personally I would love to see ex-Penguins’ team Captain Mario Lemieux compete (or the Penguins current team captain, Sidney Crosby).
So starting Monday, September 20th, 2010 I’ll be recapping the DWTS from the biased perspective of a die-hard Lindy hopper, and hopefully getting some of ATOMIC’S dance pros to weigh in on what made these dances great and why others just fell flat. Let’s see if the dance community agrees with the judges and let’s just have some fun bringing social dancing to the non-dancing public (and see if I get inspired to really venture into other dances besides swing!).
