Quickstep

Quickstep, similar to a fast paced Foxtrot, carries very distinct techniques and patterns. It was derived in the 1920’s from Foxtrot, Charleston, Shag, Peabody and One Step. It began in England but has evolved internationally into a dynamic dance with many advanced patterns that use lots of rotation and momentum. Developed to ragtime jazz, the quickstep lives up to its name as a fast and energetic dance.

The evolution of the dance has pushed modern day Quickstep beyond its origins. By the end of the 20th century advanced patterns more often than not featured split beats, a difficult feat to already lively music.

Despite the energy and pace of the dance, it absorbed the Foxtrot’s elegance. At its best, Quickstep is a smooth and glamorous dance that gives those watching an appearance of ease and lightness.
