Beginning Carolina Shag Boot Camp
with James Bianco & Natalia Eristavi
Location: ATOMIC Ballroom Irvine
12:00 pm – 3:15 pm, Saturday, February 23, 2019
Carolina Shag is a dance known for its smooth, poised drift, its rhythmic, playful footwork, and its intricate called choreographed sequences. Carolina Shag has its roots in South Carolina during the swing era of the 1930’s and 1940’s. It was inspired by Lindy Hop and the African Americans that danced it at clubs in the South during the era of segregation. It later transitioned away from big band and swing music to rhythm and blues music. Today, Carolina Shag is one of the most popular partner dances in the world. However, it lays low on the radar in Southern California. We’re excited to have this chance to drum up more Orange County interest in this challenging, but incredibly fun dance!
