Peter Flahiff: This weekend only at ATOMIC!

This weekend the ATOMIC Ballroom is hosting Seattle swing dancer Peter Flahiff.

Peter is returning to his SoCal dance roots for a whirlwind tour of teaching, dancing and DJing.  Make sure you catch at least one even with Peter while he’s in town.  I had the chance to see Peter DJ last night (along with Dave Frutos) at Lindy Groove and they kept us dancing all night long, with a Cinco de Mayo Spanish mix of the swing favorites that we all know and love.  His DJ sets were magic

Peter doesn’t often make it down to SoCal, so make sure you come see him this weekend!  He’s a Lindy Hopper, a tap dancer, and has been dancing since 1994.  When he’s not jet-setting around the world to dance and teach, he’s running and teaching at East Side Stomp in Seattle, Washington.

If you’ve never taken a class with him or seen him dance, you’re in for a real treat.  Saturday at ATOMIC-Placentia he’s teaching a Beginner’s Swing Bootcamp.  Whether you’ve been dancing for years or have always wanted to try, this will help make sure that you get started on the right foot.  He’ll also be reviewing what, in my humble opinion, is a key component to any social dance: the social aspect and the art of swing dancing.

Sunday at ATOMIC-Placentia Peter will be teaching an Intermediate-Advanced Hardcore Fundamentals of Swing Dancing.  This class will stress technique, technique, and, just for fun, more technique!  Good dancing is nothing without good technique and improving your technique improves every aspect of your dancing.  Technique classes can help with things like my former bad habit of gripping way too tightly (corrected in a technique class!).  That one change completely changed how I dance, and having a more relaxed connection has made me a better dancer.

Tomorrow at ATOMIC-Placentia’s First Saturday Swing Peter will be offering a preview of this class before the dance so you can see if you’ve got what it takes to keep up with this Lindy legend.

This video showcases Peter dancing with Rusty Frank, and it’s so much fun to watch.  That’s really the importance of technique; once you have it down you can really make the dance sing.

I hope that everyone has a great weekend and dances a blue streak!
