The Argentine Tango is a sultry and sensual Latin dance that is best described as controlled passion. The position between partners can either be open or closed and the feet are generally kept very close to the ground to give a sense of fluidly walking. This beautiful dance relies heavily on improvisation and the follower is usually doing the reverse footwork of the lead during the basic. Argentine Tango is all about communicating the passion of the music into the dance while keeping the tension contained between the partners. This beautiful dance is lots of fun and my personal favorite of the Latin dances.
One of the best introductions to tango is to listen to the music of Astor Piazzolla so you can get the rhythm and feel of the dance. Listen to one of his most famous pieces, the Libertango, featuring Yo-Yo Ma on cello.
