Wheels food truck pulls up to ATOMIC.  Once you get a whiff of their empanadas or bacon-wrapped hot dogs (or my personal favorite, the Bleu Cheeseburger), you’ll be hooked and will come back for seconds…or thirds.

Coli Piaggio and his wife Roseane have a mission – to bring the cuisine of Coli’s Argentine homeland to the streets of Orange County and Los Angeles.  Founded in November 2009, The Piaggio Gourmet on Wheels food truck specializes in dishes that are made with chimichurri sauce (an Argentine sauce made with oil, garlic and spices) and the empanada (a stuffed Argentine pastry – the Piaggio Gourmet on Wheels offers chicken and caprese, which are stuffed with mozzarella and basil – yum!).

Coli Piaggio grew up in Esperanza, Argentina, and has had a life-long interest in food.  He apprenticed for his family’s meat processing plant, but it was his

uncle, who was a chef, that inspired him to cook.  When everyone else was out playing soccer, Coli was in kitchen learning how to make his family’s now famous empanada recipe.  In his early 20s he opened his first restaurant in Bahia, Brazil, where he perfected his signature grilling techniques and made the empanada popular in traditional Brazilian cuisine.

Coli’s first restaurant in the United States was California Rice and Empanada Factory restaurant in Laguna Beach and with each restaurant he opened after he always took his specialities – the empanada, the skirt steak, and the chimichurri sauce – with him.

Keep track of the Piaggio Gourmet on Wheels Truck at their website and follow them on Twitter to get instant updates as to when they’ll be in your area.
