Chris outside of the Slice Truck

Chris, owner of The Slice Truck

I arrived to ATOMIC’S Big Band Night on Friday and was thrilled and delighted to see The Slice Truck waiting outside.  It smelled like the pizza I remember getting as a child in those mom and pop pizzerias, and, as a born and raised east coaster, I’m particular about my pizza.

The Slice Truck did not disappoint.  I talked to Chris, one of the owners, about what makes his pizza so special.  “We hand toss the dough on the truck, and our sauce is made from scratch, with no artificial ingredients,” he said.  “We get the freshest ingredients around, so you get a good pizza every single time.”  And judging by the line that was at the truck all night – no one was disappointed.

Chris and his brother, Dave, were both exposed to the two towns known for great pizza – they grew up in Chicago, and Dave lived in New York City for close to ten years.  When it comes to pizza pie, these two know their stuff.  Seeing the number of food trucks that had sprung up in Los Angeles inspired

Chris and Dave to create one for “the food of the gods” – pizza.  They opened on New Year’s Eve 2009 and in just six short months have cultivated a following all over southern California.  The Slice Truck makes regular stops at USC but look for this delicious truck to be coming back to ATOMIC soon.

And yes, I had a slice myself – pepperoni (topped with fresh basil) and an IBC Rootbeer.  Absolute heaven.
