East Coast Swing Classes

East Coast Swing (ECS) is a form of social partner dance that evolved from the Lindy Hop with the work of the Arthur Murray dance studios in the 1940's. East Coast Swing can be referred to by many different names in different regions of the United States and the World. It has alternatively been called Eastern Swing, Jitterbug, American Swing, Lindy (not to be confused with Lindy Hop) and Triple Swing. Other variants of East Coast Swing that use altered footwork forms are known as Single Swing or "Single-step Swing" (where the triple step is replaced by a single step forming a slow, slow, quick, quick rhythm common to Foxtrot), and Double Swing (using a tap-step footwork pattern).

Beg East Coast Swing
Known by names such as "The Jitterbug" and "American Swing," east coast swing evolved from the lindy hop, one of the most wildly popular social dances in American history. It was so popular amongst beginners and professional dancers that it was standardized by ballroom dancers for social dance and competition! This class is an overview of the posture and frame, basic steps and underarm turns that you'll use to dance to a song such as Glenn Miller's "In the Mood". Try this class for a taste of America's favorite dance!
In the next two weeks, this class is being offered:Sunday, August 19 - 3:00p With: Brian Coyne Fullerton, CA

Lindy hop was built from different rhythms of stepping referred to as "6-count" and "8-count". Intermediate dancers should know how to move in between these whenever they like in order to express themselves and play with the music. This class is a more detailed look at techniques such as swivels, and moves such as sugarpushes, whips, and wraps. Try this class and learn to swing out!
