Beg Belly Dance Technique

Belly Dance is a gentle, yet briskly paced class, suitable for new beginners as well as continuing beginning level students or anyone who wants to reinforce the basics. The classes focus on learning the basic movements of Belly Dance such as hip lifts and drops, circles, figure eights, shimmies, traveling steps, and more. You will either learn simple step combination's or a short choreography in each class, to the exotic rhythms and melodies of the Middle East. This class may be repeated as many times as desired, for whatever length of time students wish to drill the basic movements.

Beg Hip Hop for Adults
This class will focus on developing old-school foundational hip-hop dancing techniques and simultaneously apply them to the fresh new-school style. After taking this class, hopefully you will leave with a great appreciation of all the influences that have made the amazing art form of hip hop what it is today. What level is this class? All levels are welcome! Hip-hop is a street dance, so no prior training is needed! Just come with energy and a cool attitude! Dress Code · Comfortable sneakers · Make sure they stay on well! · You want a little bit of grip, but you don’t want so much that you can’t slide on the floor · Sandals and socks without shoes are not allowed · Comfortable clothing that allows full range of motion · Stretchy materials recommended · Always wear long pants that cover your knees · Kneepads are recommended for students with sensitive knees. · Please note: Anyone who does not follow the dress code is in danger of injuring not only themselves but other dancers around them as well. If the teacher believes that a student is a hazard, they will be asked not to participate.

Tap dance classes at Atomic Ballroom are a fun way to develop rhythm, musicality, and style! Students will study a variety of tap styles including Broadway and Rhythm tap. "Tap Technique" classes use exercises that focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and balance. Each week, drop in to one of the "Tap Routines" classes for a new dance combo that can apply those tap skills to a stylish routine! In all Atomic Ballroom tap classes, tap shoes are recommended, but not required.

Beginning Jazz for Adults
What exactly is jazz dance? The term "jazz dance" has been used to describe an ever-changing form of popular and creative dance movement ever since the early 1900s. It represents our popular culture, and as the culture changes, so does the appearance of the dance. After gaining inspiration from ragtime music and early social dancing (swing!), jazz dance became famous through American musical theatre with stars such as Bob Fosse and Fred Astaire. Today, we know jazz dance as an exciting fusion of many dance styles that is set to music ranging from hip-hop to show-tunes. It is loved for its high energy, fun, unique movements, fancy footwork, big leaps, and quick turns! Dress Code · Jazz shoes recommended · Barefoot is okay (Hard to turn on though) · Socks are not allowed (Slipping danger) · Comfortable clothing that allows full range of motion · Stretchy materials · Nothing too tight or too baggy · Long hair must be secured away from the face (Important for turning!) · Please note: Anyone who does not follow the dress code is in danger of injuring not only themselves but other dancers around them as well. If the teacher believes that a student is a hazard, they will be asked not to participate.

Every swing dancer should also be a tap dancer. Tap shoes are encouraged but optional. 1st timers are welcome. We will start at the bottom and teach shuffles, flaps, and awesome weight changes. This will be the beginning of ATOMIC's new tap program.

Created by World Lindy Hop Champion and fitness trainer Nick Williams, JitterBlast is a new dance fitness program that uses the high-energy swing dances (Lindy Hop, Charleston, Jazz and others) to burn calories and tone muscle. While you're busy learning how to dance and loosing yourself in the great music, the athletic movement and momentum provide a top-notch interval workout. JitterBlast requires no partner and is designed for the complete beginner to advanced dancer, and for people of all fitness levels. Wear your workout clothes and bring a towel and water. Prepare to sweat! Level 1: For those new to JitterBlast, those who have no dance experience, and/or those who are new to fitness.

Beg/Int Belly Dancing Combinations

This class is suitable for continuing beginners through intermediate/advanced level dancers. It is recommended that students have taken one or more Belly Dance class series before. Previous dance experience in another style may also be sufficient for enrollment in this class. Level 2 builds upon the movements that are taught in the beginning class, but with introduction to more advanced movements and skills such as undulations, layered movements, and more complex traveling patterns. Students will learn both combinations/choreographies and improvisational skills.

Afro Latin Groove is a unique cultural dance experience.  Allow yourself to be free, have fun and feel totally festive while burning fat and staying fit with this non-stop class of Afro-Latin dance! Enjoy the dynamic blend of the aggressive and stimulating African dance moves combined with the sensual hip shaking and pulsating rhythms of Latin dance.  And at the same time learn steps and moves for salsa, merengue, reggaeton, mambo, and samba that you can use... without a partner!

Barre Hoppin'
Ballet has long been used by many athletes as the ultimate cross-training tool. It offers the opportunity to find one's center, improve hand-eye coordination, balance & flexibility. I believe ballet is great for the dancer and non-dancer alike for these reasons, and I have continued to benefit from the fundamental principles I learned first in ballet class - how to find great posture, how to contrast my movements, and to become body-aware by working on alignment. Making great lines without falling off balance and being able to move from my center has come from my classical dance background. As a Lindy Hopper I've often been asked how I turn without getting dizzy, or how did I not fall over (there's always a little of that in life no matter what you do)... but to be able to recover with control and grace is key to making movements complete. Come to Barre Hopping and together we'll work on Those great lines and turning ability and just finding your center. Cross-training your movement vocabulary will always give you a bigger foundation to play with... So come out and 'play' ballet with me!

Bhangra Bollywood Series
Reetu will be taking you through six straight weeks of great "Bhangra" Bollywood instruction. Bhangra is a North Indian Folk dance. Bhangra is a very upbeat and high energy dance of celebration. Students who take this class will have an opportunity to perform at the year end showcase of Move Bollywood Prods, and other events too. Each student will get a copy of Bollywood songs from the series to practice with and to keep!

Bollywood Fusion

Bollywood dancing is the foundation of every great Indian film. Bollywood dance is a fusion of traditional and folk dances, classical Indian dance and western influences such as jazz, hip hop, and modern. An easy to follow dance class that will have you sweating as much as smiling! No previous knowledge of dance or music is required.

Bollywood Series: Garba and Dandiya Raas
In Dandiya Raas, men and women dance in two circles with sticks in their hands. In the old times, Raas did not involve much singing, just the beat of Dhol was enough. "Dandiya," or sticks, are about 18" long. Each dancer holds two, although sometimes when they are short on Dandiya, they will use just one in the right hand. Generally, in a four beat rhythm, opposite sides hit the sticks at the same time creating a nice sound. One circle goes clockwise and another counter-clockwise. In the West, people don't form full circles, but instead often form rows. Reetu Patel will be teaching the basics of Dandiya Raas in a choreographed dance routine and will be providing the props and music CDs for the students.

Bollywood Tikka Masala Series
Bollywood Tikka Masala is spicy, sweet and sour. Bollywood dance series will be the most extravagant dance routine covered in 6 weeks. Students will learn high energetic dance steps, along with the basic technique of each dance step. Students will have the opportunity to perform their dance at ATOMIC Ballroom Showcase on July 10th and at "Alice in Bolly land" on June 26th at the South Coast Repertory.

Bombay Booty is an interval based strength and cardio dance class for a total body work-out with a Bollywood twist. The class has a very simple approach towards fitness, have fun and just lots of fun working out.

Jazzercise

The Jazzercise workout program combines jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga and kickboxing movements into one 60-minute total body workout.  Each workout blends dance aerobics with muscle toning and stretching movements, all choreographed to today's hottest music, including Top 40, jazz, country, funk, rock and hip hop. Our instructors make all the routines fun and easy-to-follow. Every class includes a gentle warm-up, 30-minute cardio section, strength segment with weights and a stretch finale. Whether you are new to the Jazzercise exercise program and need some help learning the basics or a long-time participant looking for technique tips, you've come to the right place!

All of our movements have been reviewed by an exercise physiologist for safety and effectiveness!

Lejhim Bollywood Series
Back by popular demand is a brand new Bollywood Dance Series! Over the next 6 weeks we will be working on "Lejhim", and it's sure to be a lot of fun! Every state in India has a Folk dance. In this dance series we will be going on a journey to the state of Maharashtra where it resides in the city of Bollywood "Mumbai”. Students will learn how to dance with a prop called "Lejhim", a small piece of bamboo with a string of bells around it. PS: The Bhangra dance series students will be performing in the Student Showcase in April!

Lifestyle Fitness presents Wellness Fit Camp! Join us for our Wellness Fit Camp with Kiola Raines where her goal is to get you stronger, feel better and have more energy all while losing weight! Wellness Fit Camp runs 3 days a week, for 4 weeks. Each week includes a nutrition discussion with tips and tools to help you stay healthy and fit!
