Essentials elements of tango as applied to other rhythmic forms commonly played at social dances, the Argentine Waltz (Vals Criollo) and tango's polyrhythmic cousin, the Argentine Milonga. Emphasis will be placed on musical interpretation, parallel and cross-systems, and traspie technique (double-time ball changes and stutter steps). The course will also cultivate an appreciation for the flow of a tango event from a DJ's perspective-- how to anticipate changes in the style of the orchestras in order to manipulate the sense of magic at the milonga!
